Orli Schwartz
“Aggregate Aggregated”

To expose the highly localized nature of aggregate extraction, Aggregate Aggregated assembles an archive of natural aggregates used across southeast Michigan providing visitors with a glimpse of where extraction occurs in their own communities. With Levy Aggregates operation along the Rouge River as a backdrop, piles of aggregate shipped into and transported out of the yard blend with the piles of the archive. Visitors serve as witnesses to the scale of this operation and begin to imagine its massive environmental impact. In order to begin the remediation process within a still active industrial zone, the vehicle of the gabion acts as a bridge between the collection and containment of aggregate and phytoremediation.
