"Soft Edges"
This bathhouse responds to the individualistic mindset of Western culture, by highlighting the importance of collective intimacy through spaces with imprecise boundaries. Explored through manipulating the structure’s wooden walls, breaking down into substructures, were walls appear both opaque and transparent. By manipulating scale, depth, and rhythm of slats throughout the structure, results in moments of temporal intimacy. The project further explores this through the use of wood in different ways where locker room walls comprised of transparent veneer reveal silhouettes. This concept is explored through water, too, where bathing pools of contrasting temperature are unified as one while remaining largely separate.
