“Circulating Greenhouses”

Tasked with using form as the basis for sustainably-designed residential living, the project proposes a slipform stone heat mass wall circulating throughout the site, warmed by efficiently placed greenhouses. Looking at examples of courtyard housing as cooling systems in warmer climates, "Circulating Greenhouses" is a cold climate adaptation of that system through central greenhouses which act both as building heaters and communal gathering spaces. Stepping into the interiors of the buildings, a visitor would discover that the heat sink walls expand at the base to provide interior spaces, creating corridors linking the buildings, and shaded gathering areas next to the heat of the greenhouses.
