[PRACTICUM] - NEWELL, MEIER - PRECISE FIT PROJECT

“Precise Fit”

The project explores two wooden architectural systems within their tectonics: one facade system with modular components and one architectural-making process with flexible nature. The project proposes a wooden truncated triangular prism unit with three different joinery openings to elongate in 5 angles within three axes. The wooden units are produced through a process of subtractive making: CNC. The CNC process included preparing the initial wooden block, pocketing the joinery locations, and then surfacing the prism geometry. The output units can be manipulated in larger sets and rings, additionally, the system is flexible enough to manipulate units individually.
