“a Cabinet”
For this project I created a piece of furniture based around woodworking forms and techniques that were new to me. Beginning with a heart of coopered barrels, the cabinet branches out to conceal, reveal, and display its contents using hobbit-like doors, a sliding tambour panel, and semi-transparent metal shelves. Also pictured is the first project from this studio, a serving tray for twelve chocolates. Drawing inspiration from Japanese gardens the tray has strong horizontal lines and circular forms denoting the location of each chocolate. The formal language of a circle being punctured by horizontals is something that carried on into the design of the cabinet.
