Implementing a structural and formal system of glue-laminated timber members, Luminate / Laminate seeks to frame the cinema experience through the sequencing of daylighting and public programming. Developed through a series of physical material experiments, compound-curve wood forms connect to delineate primary and interstitial spaces. Perforations within the framework filter in light via skylights, coupling with the warmth of timber to create intimate, luminous experiences. The theater is fronted by a public marketplace, fostering a symbiotic relationship between the two entities which serves to enrich community and patron experience through the interfacing of arts and agriculture.
