Depot Park Cinema Both cinema and park, Depot Park Cinema aims to foster a sense of community in a space of transition between neighborhood and downtown. Building upon the site’s historic and environmental context the cinema creates an urban wetland through the daylighting of Allen Creek, increasing ground surface permeability in a highly impermeable area within the floodplain. Together, cinema and wetland make the experience of the outdoors available and accessible to a broader audience. Emphasizing “facade” as a threshold between inside and out, the cinema tackles the question of “why go out” quite literally, focusing on the transition and contrast that come with the experience of going outside.
